Alvie has always loved to take photographs. In the sixties he set up a cramped and determined little darkroom in the family bathroom, which slowly, over many years and numerous relocations, managed to evolve into a large, well-equipped bonafide darkroom in the basement of his home on 36th. I have memories of many hours spent with him watching the miracle of an image emerging on the paper as it floated in the developing solution.

Alvie took this picture of mountain wildflowers in 1974 or '75. It's always been one of my favourite pictures.

He took this portrait of Chinook in our living room in 1973. She was one of those very careful, beautifully groomed cats, and his photo captures this perfectly.
