I scattered the shell at sunrise, just in time to greet the first sun of the “new year”
(Sat., December 22, 2001). The tide was flooding,
and waves began their scattering of the shell just as the sun crested the horizon.

It was a quiet, yet very profound moment for me. I had spent hours, days even,
thinking about the when, where and especially the why of my choice.
Elsewhere, dozens of other participants were perhaps also pushed to contemplation
by this seemingly small and simple act.

I loved the process, the whole idea of this project, and of course the process
will continue every time I go to Taylor Beach and find myself thinking about the pieces of shell....
